Overview
Description
The Boreland Phase 2 restoration project, located near Killin in Perth and Kinross, restored 131 hectares of degraded blanket bog by 2025. Positioned within the Loch Rannoch and Glen Lyon National Scenic Area (NSA) and the catchment of the River Tay Special Area of Conservation (SAC), the project plays a vital role in protecting sensitive ecosystems and water quality. Restoration works include gully and hag reprofiling, drain blocking, peat dam construction, and revegetation of bare peat areas to stabilise the landscape and restore hydrology. Designed to last 72 years, the project adheres to UK voluntary carbon market principles and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including climate action (SDG 13) and life on land (SDG 15). Boreland Phase 2 builds on previous restoration efforts in the area, ensuring long-term carbon storage, enhanced biodiversity, and improved resilience of this significant peatland habitat.
